The goal: an outdoor room, not just a slab

The back of this Weddington home opened onto plain lawn, with no hard surface for chairs, a table or a grill.

The homeowners wanted a space that felt finished and built-in, not just pavers with furniture on top.

How we did it

  1. Layout and excavation. We marked the patio on the lawn and excavated with a compact track loader.
  2. Base. A compacted stone base and bedding layer so the pavers stay flat.
  3. Pavers. Multi-size pavers laid in a random pattern, edged and locked in.
  4. Seating wall. A segmental block wall with a cap, built along the patio edge.
  5. Finish. A pine straw border to blend the patio into the yard.

Why add a seating wall?

A seating wall gives you permanent seating for a crowd without extra furniture, defines the edge of the patio, and makes the space feel like a room. It is one of the most useful upgrades you can add to a paver patio.

The finished patio

The homeowners now have a finished outdoor room right off the back of the house, with seating built in and plenty of space for a table and grill.

Questions homeowners ask us

How long does a paver patio take to install?

This one took about a week from layout to finish. Most residential patios take several days depending on size, access and features like seating walls.

Should I choose pavers or concrete?

Both work well. Pavers offer more patterns and colors and can be repaired in sections; concrete is usually less per square foot. See a concrete patio we built in Huntersville.

Can you add a fire pit or lighting later?

Yes, although wiring and gas lines are easiest to plan before the pavers go down.

Do you work in Weddington?

Yes. We work throughout Weddington, Waxhaw, Wesley Chapel and the Charlotte metro.
